Organizing for change
There is no better educational process than to be organizing and taking action for change. But simply taking action is not enough; there needs to be a focus on learning from experience, sharing ideas and testing strategies. If change is to be developmental, organizations need to learn from others as well as reflecting on their own experience.
In order to assist this, the Freire Institute has created the Organizer Workshop programme. This is specifically intended for organizations already engaged in action, whether as single-issue groups, community organizations or broad coalitions.
This day workshop is an introduction to how participants can think more clearly about their practice in terms of:
- Building alliances, networking, practical steps to engage and retain support for your cause;
- Decision-making, organizational structures, forms of leadership;
- Conflict resolution, group dynamics, dialogue;
- Strategy-building, planning, allocating resources;
- Tactics for action, creativity, renewing enthusiasm for action;
- Action-Reflection, training, learning from experience.
